Reflections on the Season

by Rev. Pamela Grace

I hear and feel echoes of myself in my emptiness
Who we are dissipates into the other
Yet at the same time, who I am, who you are is a unique melody that sometimes we ourselves turn a deaf ear to
Bleakness is when we can no longer hear our own melody, beating in time to our heart
Blending with the orchestra of life, with occasional moments of breathtaking solos,
to once again recede and merge into the symphony of all our relations

This surrendering to darkness, to willingly let go
and spiral inward into our own echoes
where death and life hold us from one moment to the next -
one giving rise to the other

At this time of year I seek to remember my own light,
born from my darkness, my stillness –
my emptiness
Pregnant with possibilities

This time of Winter Solstice
where the pinnacle of night makes way for the light of day
We come together to celebrate the birth of all possibilities,
emerging from the womb of night

We honor all the places we have been because they've made us who we are
We let go of who we are to remember who we are meant to be

In this silent and holy of times,
we open to this moment -
this pause between the in breath and the exhale
It is in this space between notes that all things are possible

May we be Blessed
